The Financial Plan

Money matters

Stack of MoneyBecause of the economic tsunami of the past decade, you see a flood of "financial experts" providing guidance on financial matters. Today, personal savings, retirement and investments are the "new cool" because so many people are economically deficient. Thousands of people have lost their jobs resulting in longer lines at the unemployment offices. Savings accounts have been depleted to the point where borrowing from a friend is no longer an option. To add insult to injury, the mortgage crisis has displaced families causing a rise in the homeless population. Food banks can barely meet the demand of their communities and shelters are closed leaving those who provided a warm place to stay homeless.

The situation that we are faced with today seems hopeless; the small glimmer of hope over the horizon seems to be interrupted by natural catastrophic events. As saints of God, we take comfort in Isaiah 58:10-11 "And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday: And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not."

moneyGod, in his infinite wisdom, has godly principles for financial matters that are effective — if you apply them. The Bible gives the example of the ant. The ant prepares her food in the summer; she gathers in the harvest her food. When the winter comes she has enough food to carry her through the winter. Those who fail to follow this principle (or example of the ant) will have to ask God for mercy during the difficult season. Those who follow this command to store up or save during the plentiful times are prepared for the slow and tough period.

The bible is full of financial principles that will see you through this season of recession or any difficult financial period. As children of God, it is imperative that we pay close attention to his word so that we are prepared for any situation. We should ask God to help us be faithful servants that exhibit prudence, wisdom, longsuffering, and faith. Although we did not cause the economic downturn of the past century, we have the principles that will sustain us during any difficult time period.
